The Royal Nautical Club of Gran Canaria

Welcome to the Royal Nautical Club of Gran Canaria

With 7 Olympic gold medals, 10 Olympic diplomas, 40 Olympic appearances, 44 World Champions, 32 European Champions and 315 Spanish Championships behind it, the Royal Nautical Club of Gran Canaria boasts the longest list of honours of any club of its kind in the world. To this growing list we can add the President’s Cup, the highest award given by the International Olympic Committee (IOC). This cup was awarded to the club in 2000, and is now one of the trophies to adorn the entrance lobby at the club, very near to the Sala Náutica, where photos of World Champions and Olympic medal winners hang, alongside the famous wall emblazoned with the dozens of names that have made this club a legend in nautical circles.

The Royal Nautical Club of Gran Canaria is a private entity, and its facilities are for the exclusive use of its members, although during the winter season it opens its doors to sailors from the centre and north of Europe who come to work on their training programmes and to keep competitively sharp thanks to the mild Canary climate, the exceptional conditions to be had at the bay of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria for light sailing vessels, and the club’s fine amenities.

Founded back in 1908, the RNCGC manages to keep the island’s only Olympic sailing flag flying under its own steam. Five sailors from the RNCGC belong to the Spanish Pre-Olympic squad, a result of the tireless efforts that have gone in to developing the youth ranks. The sailing teams forge ahead throughout the year: every single weekend there is a competition on somewhere, either here at home or elsewhere around the world.
